Hooky

Ssshhh... don't tell, but tonight I'm playing hooky from my Arabic class.  It's alright though, because I emailed my teacher and he said we're just going to be going over what we learned last week.

Ok, that's a lie... I did email my teacher but he didn't get back to me.  I guess it's just wishful thinking that we're just going to review from last week.  It's exceptionally probable though, because only 3 out of 6 people were there last week, so that means that half the class would be behind.

On the agenda for tonight since I'm not in class?  Working on Angelina's invitations for her wedding - a worthy cause for missing class.

And She Knew Better....

Last night Justin hosted a Mexican themed dinner at his house.  He made a chicken casserole with Doritos (it was yummy, but I had a hard time getting over the Doritos), Alyssa made rice, I made corn mush stuff (from the pack - I didn't have time to do it from scratch) and refried beans (which I jazzed up with a packet of sofrito and a whole bunch of cheese), Ange brought chips and dip, and Kristi made chocolate quesadillas for dessert (I was good and didn't try those, having given up chocolate for Lent).  By special request I mixed a small batch of margaritas too, I suppose that they could best be described as "potent": 3 parts Jose silver, 2 parts Cointreau, 1 part lime juice, some sugar and a final drizzle of Chambord.  Alyssa, who had experienced them before, had 3 and was pretty much out for the count when I left.  After the last time I made them she described the sensation as her brain disconnecting from her scull - not sure if that's a good thing.

I'm waiting a few more hours before I call her today...

Photo from An Atlantan Eats - her's is a much less potent margarita ;o)

Louis Armstrong

Who doesn't love Louis Armstrong?  I love him!  Not as much as I love Teddy Roosevelt, but possibly more than I love Mark Twain.  What a Wonderful World was just on the radio.  It's one of the most perfect songs ever of all time.  Yes I love it that much.

March Madness

It's horrible.  I'm addicted.  I can't stop checking to see the scores of the games.  I don't even like basketball!!!  But since I filled out a bracket and entered the office pool, it is now my obsession.  I'm doing alright, but with all these nail biters I don't know how much longer I can take the suspense.  I'm currently have 18 out of 24 correct, but that could go downhill at any moment.  I am tied with 16 other people in 24th place on our pool (out of 85 brackets submitted).

And in case you're curious - I have UConn taking it all.

What can I say? Best puppetry school in the country!!!

Yes, I did base my bracket on that.

Next Door

I'm beginning to think that there is something up with that house next door.  At first I just attributed it to the crazy lady living there, but now that a normal family has moved in I now attribute it to the house.  What is "it" you ask?  It is the need to call the paramedics!  This morning, I woke to find that my driveway was blocked by a firetruck and an ambulance.  I thought those days were over when that lady moved out.  Oh well, I hope everything turned out ok over there, I kinda like those neighbors in that they are not crazy!

***Side note... Please send your thoughts, prayers, good vibes, what have you... to Bakerella (i.e. the Cake Pop lady) - she has been in the hospital due to her body rejecting her kidney transplant (from 18-odd years ago).  You can read what she has to say on her blog - sad that this is happening to such a sweet (literally!) lady.

Here are some pictures of her adorable Cake Pops in case you are not familiar with them (all photos from Bakerella):

Epic Fail

Sorry I've been gone so long!  Epic fail on my part I know...  A lot has been going on, although I suppose some people do not see that as an excuse to stop blogging (*cough, *cough, Becky...).

News Flash!!!  I'm going to grad school!  I was officially accepted today.  I figure after getting an exceptionally impractical undergrad degree it's time to get a degree which might actually help me to get a job.  That said, I am going to be in an accelerated MBA (masters of business administration) program, I still haven't decided yet if I will do the electives for the financial option or just stick with the general business option.  None the less in two years I will be even deeper in debt but at least I will hopefully have more potential for job advancement (i.e. a better paying job).

I started taking Arabic too at the local community college, so far I know the alphabet, my numbers, and a few phrases and nouns.  I would like to stick with it though, because there is definitely a job market for people with a knowledge of Arabic.  Even if my ultimate "big girl job" does not require my knowing Arabic, at least I will have a base for when I travel to Morocco - which is totally on my short list of countries I want to travel to.

Let's see... what else...  I'll have to get back to you on that one - at least now I have internet at home and can blog anytime!
